RH 9.0 installieren und kompilieren nach Handbuch

Hallo Leute
Ich bin absolut neu im Thema nagios...
Gemäss Handbook versuche ich seit 2 Stunden den richtigen weg zu finden, nagios zu compilen...
so sieht mein configure string den auch aus:

./configure --prefix=/var/www/html/nagios --with-cgiurl=/nagios/cgi --with-htmurl=/nagios/ --with-nagios-user=nagios --with-nagios-grp=nagios

folgende Fehlermeldung erhalte ich ...

loading cache ./config.cache
checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking for gcc... no
checking for cc... no
configure: error: no acceptable cc found in $PATH
[root@xxxx.domain.xx nagios]#

Aber Hallo! Ich habe die neusten Compilers drin ?!?!

/usr/bin/gcc296
/usr/bin/i386-redhat-linux7-gcc
/usr/lib/gcc-lib
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux7/2.96/libgcc.a

Wo im $Path muss das drin stehen?
