Die Sache mit dem ESXi

Lasst uns hier im Thread mal ein wenig zum ESXi Monitoring sammeln ;)



Netter Post auf der check_mk users liste, wie der den op5 plugin eingestellt hat.
So als startpunkt :)

Ansonsten nochmal alle Unwahrheiten ausschalten.
- man kann snmp einschalten
- man kann via ssh gut drauf
- man kann per snmp mehr als vm status und vm ramgroesse monitoren (hatte ich nicht hinbekommen)
- alles unsupported :)

An die URL zu meinem alten Agent bin ich dann auch nur ueber google gekommen. (Und nicht ueber die Mailingliste + Google. Grosse Klasse)

In dem Agent finden sich die passenden Optionen und Outputs fuer den jeweiligen Kram, den man abfragen koennte.

esxcfg - SAN subkommandos

Mit ESXcfg hab ich dann ein einigermassen strukturiertes Kommando gefunden gehabt.
Da ich das SAN-Zeug am interessantesten fand, hab ich dazu auch entsprechend Output gesammelt.

Zu ESX:

1. per snmp
2. per ipmi .... hier nochn 2ter link link2
3. wenn du ilo hast per xml

das op 5plugin verursacht eine sehr hohen load ... ich find aber irgendwie dne link zu diesem thema nemmer

Der Vorteil bei ipmi ist, dass man auch im ausgeschalteten Zustand abfragen kann und das faster jeder Server einen BMC hat.

bei hp server kommt man über cim eh nicht vorbei da hp dies als standard einsetzt und auch bei hp sim zum einsatz kommt.
und wie vicodas benutze ich auch momentan das plugin von claudio, imho das beste für das hardware esxi monitoring.
die load ist nicht besonders hoch und sehr stable :)

für vm, datastore, vcenter gibt es imho eigentlich eh kein vorbei an den op5 plugins. der umfang ist momentan am größten und die entwicklung ist auch sehr aktiv.
die hohe load wird eher durch die vmware api herbeigeführt - das gleiche ist auch bei der powercli.
mit mod_gearman kann man sich da aber schön abhelfen.

mit was kann ich den das am besten über nagios ansprechen ? mit welchem plugin.... irgendwie habe ich da nie was konkretes gefunden, zzt. gehen wir über die ilos per ipmi ... klappt aber nicht reibungslos ....

für die zusätzlichen hardware sensoren musst du noch auf jedem esx host das hp esxi offline bundle

danach kannst du mit
http://www.claudiokuenzler.com/nagios-pl…xi_hardware.php
den hardware status auslesen.

da das ganze auch im vcenter sichtbar ist könntest du einfachheitshalber auch den status der hosts oder datacenters mit check_esx3 auslesen.
da siehst du aber halt nur ob warning etc. aber nicht direkt welche hardware betroffen ist. da muss man dann händisch nochmal im vcenter nachsehen.
