Help with Geomaps to Nagvis 1.7b2

Hello all,

I've been trying to experiment with geomaps feature in Nagvis 1.7b2. In b1, I didn't get the feature to work at all, however, with b2, I'm able to get the demo environment up and running at least.

However, I'm more than a bit puzzled. The demo-geomap - yes, it gives me a nice Openstreetmap image of Germany, with servers at Munich and Hamburg. However, the map is, for all intents and purposes, static. I though I could zoom around like I can with regular openstreetmap. I initially thought that this might be due to browser I'm using (Firefox 12) which might omit some controls. However, at least with Internet Explorer, Nagvis doesn't seem to work at all (throws javascript errors).

Anyway, if the geomap is actually "semi-dynamic" in the sense that you don't get the normal Openstreetmap controls but at least you can obtain the backgrounds directly from Openstreetmap, how do I configure which part of the world map I want to view? I tried moving the "Hamburg" server off the map my changing the latitude to 60. The map did not auto-adjust or anything like that. I see there's a "viewpoints.xml", but modifying that doesn't seem to have any effect either. How *do* I set the starting point for a geomap?

In the changelog, you said you didn't get much feedback - well, I hope this qualifies as some :)

Hello,

first, thanks for testing and giving feedback!

This are good news for me. Means the feature is working for you.

This is not the way we implemented the geomap. The geomap withing NagVis uses a static background image just like regular maps do with the exception that it fetches the background image dynamically based on the given objects.

I'd be interested in the exact error messages. Which IE version are you testing with?

Changing the coords in the csv file of the geomap should really change the map and background image etc. -> adjust. I'll check it.

This is done by detecting the left/upper coord and right/bottom coord of the given hosts (-> csv file) by default. You can then use filters to reduce the given hosts by e.g. the hostgroup.

Kind regards

Ok - misunderstanding there then. Too bad, I was kinda hoping for a zoomable view when this was first announced...

I'm trying with IE 8.0. I can't get the exact error message since I rolled back to 1.6.4 from backups, but actually, I get similar errors with 1.6.4 and automaps. I think the 1.7b2 errors were kind of similar - occurring only with geo- and automaps. I get this error just by clickin on the "Default Automap":

Ok. This definitely did not occur for me. Should I have restarted apache or something?

XP and IE 8: nagvis_error1.png

With Win7 and IE 9 I'm not getting an error just a blank screen: nagvis_error2.png
PS: Any plans to add zoom capabilities in the future?

Hi All,

I can confirm the above javascript errors with IE as reported by gjfrater on both v1.7b2 and the 2012-06-18 nightly.

Otherwise, things are looking great!

Hi,

any help with the original problem? Like I said, I cannot get the geomaps to work.

Steps to repeat:

Open demo - Geomap, with servers showing in Hamburg and Munich.

Open demo-locations.csv, which has

Source code

1
2
ham-srv1;Hamburg Server 1;53.556866;9.994622
muc-srv1;Munich Server1;48.1448353;11.5580067

Change to (for example):

Source code

1
2
ham-srv1;Hamburg Server 1;63.556866;9.994622
muc-srv1;Munich Server1;48.1448353;11.5580067

Expected result: The map gets re-rendered again showing the "Hamburg server" at 63 degrees north.
Actual result: Map stays the same, but Hamburg server is not on it anymore - it's off the map.

Would you like a screenshot?

Not to pile on, but we are seeing the same issue using the Geomap, so it's happening on more than one install. We are running 1.7b2 btw.

Cheers,

IE errors should be fixed now with current nightly. Will have a look at the geomap things (maybe tomorrow).

Nagvis not working after installation

nagvis.ini.php.txtHi all,
I have installed Nagvis 1.6.6 on my server running Ubuntu 10.04 with Nagios 3.2.3
Problem is I cannot see any Nagvis page after the installation and there is no way to log in to Nagvis. Please can anyone help because I have re-installed Nagvis but I still have the same problem. I am using ndoutils-1.4b9 with ndo2db used for my Nagvis backend. I have attached my nagvis.ini.php file if that will help.

Thank you,
Koloz

I just pushed some changes to the git master. These changes should fix the reload problems with geomaps.
Please check it out and give feedback.

Hi Lami,
Sorry I mixed threads I just joined the forum and didn't know how to use it well but now I know.
I have created a new thread titled "Can't see login page after Nagvis after installation". Please can you check it out and offer any help?

Thank you,
Koloz.

Hi,

I tried with the latest nightly build. Now - when I change the values in the .CSV, I no longer get same map. Instead, I get the following error:

The geomap needs to be able to fetch some data from the internet via webservice API. Please take a look at the docs for more details.

Weird part - I can indeed open that URL in a browser and the map that comes out is appropriate. However, this doesn't seem to work from the PHP script...

Ok. What happened was that if I went to the geomap again, things worked out just fine.

Actually, I now can repeat the issue: If I change the coordinates in the .CSV, on the *first* time it gives this error, but on subsequent attempts the map shows just fine. Maybe some function times out too soon?

Anyway, relatively happy now :) (Although having full controls of the map with zoom and all would be great)

Try to set the option http_timeout in [global] section. It defaults to 5 (seconds). Does it change anything?

Actually, it seems more to be some sort of firewall/session type issue. I can retrieve several different maps in a succession. However, if I pause for a while, like for a half a hour, then the first new map to be retrieved causes this error.

This is not such a big deal though.
